Education in  the DSD  PhD Program is  organized horizontally. In contrast to the classical structure of the scientific disciplines, this structure works as a broad base, encompassing architecture, urbanism, building technology and history and theory equally. Interceding into this horizontal structure are the DSD Research Projects,  which each PhD candidate will contribute to.

These Projects pull together the combined resources of all the current specializations with the DSD as well as relate directly to various DSD Platform events. This horizontal structure provides a solid basis that then can expand or change through the various intercessions defined by the necessities of the profession and society as a whole.
